Star Fatigue : Calerion [Dev Log 03]

Hello, and thank you for checking this post out. From the last post I stated I was going to work on fixing the dialogue, then working on models.

I lied!

Slightly! I finished the dialogue system, making it to where the player couldn't input movement during dialogue, but the world still persisted and continued. I didn't want to sleep without fixing an issue I could very well forget a potential solution to, so I fixed it that night. Moving on from that, while I wanted to work on the models.. I simply felt like that was a time-sink that was not needed currently. With the game being so under-developed, asset making is not the priority. Developing systems that work and can be shown, however...

Latest Progress

In this video update, you can see an added 'skulking' system. Crouching and crawling with the ability to fit through claustrophobic holes and hide behind hip-height objects. Additionally, you can also see the beginnings of a rudimentary inventory system. This inventory system will be different in regard to the visual appearance, and will link much more cohesively with other menus and GUIs that will be added to the game (fingers crossed).

(Placeholder assets are from "Shikashi's Fantasy Icons Pack". Much love to the resource provided!)

The inventory system will be able to provide an active resource for collected items, though I don't intend for that to be a 'majority' mechanic that is involved in the game loop (if at all, aside from a select few items such as healing). With the skulking system implemented and ready for it's integration into the more advanced systems currently in progress.

What's Next?

Combat! Sprites! More assets!

More specifically, I'm intending to flesh out the foundation of the combat system that will be in the game, as well as develop a portion of the 2D assets required for the project. The enemies & NPCs will be a mix of both 2D and 3D (some will be bill-boarded 2D, others 3D models), which will be exciting to see in the project. I'm also hoping the 'introduction' area will be finished to lead the way into a playable alpha I can upload. That will of course require menu and further GUI implementation.
